- ShyBladder (Paruresis)
- Shy bladder or Paruresis sufferers find it difficult if not impossible to pee in front of, or next to other people. It also happens to be one of the most common symptoms that men consult me for, so you are not alone, and you know exactly what I mean if you have ever queued up for a cubicle whilst you are in a busy public building. You may even of found yourself wondering if the other guys in the queue have the same problem.
If you do suffer from this condition then the bad news is that there are also certain social situations that you probably find very daunting, such as being put on the spot and giving speeches and talks. This is because these are all symptoms of a social phobia, a fear of being scrutinised of being judged. As with all phobias the severity of the symptoms does vary from individual to individual i.e. not being able to pee into public toilet urinals, to being only able to pee in one’s own toilet at home (which can play havoc with work and social life). Also the amount of stress the individual is experiencing has a major part to play.
