Obsessions/Compulsions

Treatment for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
There are many people who suffer from this anxiety disorder in one way or another. To comprehend a better understanding of the disorder it is better to separate the obsessions from the compulsions because they can have a different effect upon peoples lives and the way they are experienced.
Obsessions
We all can have obsessive thoughts from time to time, for instance when we think we forget to lock the door and we keep thinking we forgot until we have to actually go and check for some relief.

The excessive forms of obsessions may be obsessional actions and or obsessional thoughts. Obsessional thoughts can be exchanged from one silly thought to another, like over worrying, excessive worry about people, places and things. Replacing one silly action like the washing of hands every five minutes with checking that water taps are not dripping. Then having to re-check using a silly ritual.

Also there is 'absurd magical beliefs' like walking on every crack in the pavement to make sure that something good happens. The obsessional can become totally preoccupied and focused with excessive behaviours or rituals which give them little or no relief.
Compulsions
A compulsive sufferer finds themselves compelled to carry some task through to a conclusion then only to find the completion of the task may bring slight relief and then subsides so then there is neither satisfaction or any relief. Quickly they find another to which the same amount of energy is applied. If the suffer is forced to quit the compulsion they become resentful and anxious until allowed to resume the behaviour. If the task is stopped in anyway there is a good chance of an immediate reaction of depression.
